The 2009/2010 NBA schedule was released this week and the big wigs at the NBA didn't really pull out too many surprises.
The season begins in Cleveland on October 27th where the Cavaliers will face the Boston Celtics. Cleveland and Boston are arguably the two most improved teams in the Eastern Conference.
Game 2 that evening will be the battle for Los Angeles when the NBA Champion Lakers host the Blake Griffin led L.A. Clippers. Both games will be shown on TNT.
On October 30th the Boston Celtics will host the Chicago Bulls in a rematch of the Eastern Conference first round match-up that made history. The NBA is attempting to capitalize on the ratings bonanza by playing all four Bulls/Celtics match-ups on nation wide cable TV.
Thanksgiving is usually a time for football, but this year the NBA and TNT will treat fans to two games on turkey day. The Orlando Magic will visit the Atlanta Hawks while the Utah Jazz host the Chicago Bulls.
On Christmas, five NBA games will be played on ESPN and ABC. In the opener the Miami Heat visit the New York Knicks, The L.A. Clippers will play the Phoenix Suns, The Blazers will host the Nuggets, The Celtics visit the Magic, and in the main event the Cleveland Cavaliers will play the Los Angeles Lakers in a game with many subplots.
Both teams will be the favorites to compete in the NBA Finals. Kobe and LeBron are arguably the two best players on the planet. And how could we forget the Shaq vs. Kobe scenario that has been beaten to death?
The NBA Finals re-match will take place on Martin Luther King Day as the Magic visit the L.A Lakers. The second and final game of that series will be played Sunday March 7th on ABC.
On SuperBowl Sunday the Orlando Magic will visit the Boston Celtics in a playoff re-match before the big game.
All-Star Weekend will be held February 12-14 in Dallas, Texas.
For those seeking drama and revenge Vince Carter returns to New Jersey on October 30th. Ben Gordon returns to Chicago on December 2nd. Hedo Turkoglu plays his first game in Orlando on December 16th. Shaquille O'Neal heads back to Phoenix on December 21st.
The final day of the season is April 14. Fourteen games will be played on that day, capped off by the Phoenix Suns visiting the Utah Jazz.
